Seattle Veterinary Specialists (SVS) is a state-of-the-art multi-specialty and 24-hour emergency/critical care facility in Kirkland, WA. We are currently seeking a full-time Cardiology Veterinary Technician. A love of cardiology and genuine interest in expanding career experience is a must. This position would be ideal for candidates interested in specialty licensing.

Job Summary:
Provide veterinary surgical and nursing care to small animals under the direction of the cardiologists employed by Seattle Veterinary Specialists. Conduct a variety of technical duties relevant to being an integral part of a veterinary medical team in the operation of the small animal specialty & emergency facility, while working in accordance with company policies and procedures. It is necessary that a small animal veterinary technician be capable of lifting a large dog (sometimes weighing in excess of 50 lbs) onto an exam/treatment table. A veterinary technician working for the Cardiology department will be required to answer client questions/concerns over the phone or in person.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
General small animal handling practices, procedures including restraint, surgical prep, treatments, anesthesia, patient monitoring, medical calculations, and familiarity with pharmaceuticals used in the Cardiology Dept and their most common administration protocols.

Ability to:
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Perform triage and treatments in a timely and efficient manner. Keep accurate written records. Uphold proper safety protocols. Properly restrain each type of animal presented for treatment/surgery. Demonstrate familiarity & proficiency with aseptic techniques. Demonstrate knowledge of radiographic procedures & techniques. Learn new equipment such as laparoscopy, arthroscopy and various physical therapy modalities. Show familiarity with laboratory procedures & practices. Show familiarity with the variety of services offered by Seattle Veterinary Specialists for the treatment of injury or disease in dogs & cats Proficiently perform any lawful task asked of by the veterinarians. Clearly and effectively communicate with clients and staff. Must have a demonstrated ability to multi-task, be detailed oriented and organized.

Education: Have a two-year degree by an accredited veterinary technician program, and have passed the VTNE, or have satisfied the prerequisites to challenge the VTNE (i.e. be qualified under the Grandfather Clause) and have passed the test.

Experience: Recent experience in a small animal practice is preferred. Leadership experience a plus, this position will be the lead technician in the cardiology department.

Essential Functions & Specific Duties:
Assist the veterinarians as needed. Take an accurate history when receiving/communicating with clients during consultations. Perform physical exams according to SVS procedures and protocols. Place intravenous catheters aseptically. Prepare patients aseptically for surgical procedures. Assist surgical procedures and treatments as directed. Administer and monitor anesthesia in accordance with state regulations and SVS policies. Clean and keep stocked the cardiology areas of the facility. Provide physical therapy and post operative patient management. Provide client education and counsel clients regarding post-surgical home care, medication administration, etc. Fill take-home prescriptions as directed by the veterinarian and in accordance with state regulations. Complete scheduled treatments, medicinal and otherwise. Administer intravenous, intra-muscular, subcutaneous or oral medications as directed. Observe animals for changes in clinical status. Calculate drug dosages in accordance with state regulations. Maintain and monitor intravenous fluid administration. Maintain accurate medical records for each patient. Take and process radiographs. Draw and periodically process laboratory samples. Perform other tasks as assigned. Willingness to learn new techniques and technology such as laparoscopy, arthroscopy, therapeutic lasers, ice compression, etc. Correct placement and care of bandages including bandage changes as necessary.

Hours:
4 weekdays a week, daytime hours TBD.
