Primary Duties This position works under the direction of the Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Program Manager and with the HAI Programâs Nurse Consultant. Additionally, the position works with infection control professionals in hospitals throughout the state to produce summary reports from data provided through the CDCâs National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), and with organizations throughout the region on special projects. As directed by and under the supervision of senior program staff, this position compiles, maintains and analyzes data concerning healthcare-associated infection rates; participates in validation, report preparation and consultation; and assists with outbreak investigations. It assists the department's Washington State NHSN Group facility administrator in helping hospitals with methods and definitions used by the NHSN, and monitoring their compliance. It assists the HAI Program Manager in statistical and epidemiol! ogical analysis of NHSN data. It coordinates participation of stakeholders, analyzes data and prepares reports in various HAI projects. Duties include: · As directed by senior program staff, assists in planning, implementing and evaluating strategies related to reduction of healthcare associated infections and implementation of NHSN reporting. · As directed by senior program staff, assists in coordinating activities with the CDC (participates in related CDC NHSN state users group conference calls & CSTE workgroup conference calls) and analyzing state data collected through CDC's NHSN system. · Maintains current knowledge in hospital epidemiology & infection control practices. · Assists healthcare facilities with infection reporting issues and monitors compliance. · Represents the department on healthcare associated infection issues, supports the healthcare associated infections advisory committee and stakeholder groups as directed. · Drafts, reviews and edits: plans, ! reports, technical publications, fact sheets, presentations, reports an! d other materials. · Develops educational materials on reporting of healthcare acquired infections and NHSN reporting. · Other duties, including participation in outbreak investigations, as assigned. Required Qualifications NOTE: Experience may have been gained concurrently. · A Masterâs degree in Epidemiology. OR · A Masterâs degree in Public Health or related field which includes coursework in epidemiology and biostatistics. AND · Two (2) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience in hospital epidemiology and infection control in a large community, teaching hospital, or a public health agency. · CBIC certification in infection control or completion of the SHEA/CDC or IDSA/SHEA Training Course in Healthcare Epidemiology. Desired Qualifications NOTE: Experience may have been gained concurrently. · Experience and knowledge of NHSN policies, procedures and system features. · Experience and author of presentations at professional society meetings, publicat! ions in biomedical journals, or both. Conditions of Employment · Willing and able to work indoors, at a desk/workstation the majority of a work day, in an open office environment with possible conversation and other noise distractions, with or without an accommodation. · Willing and able to occasionally work in excess of 40 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekends, to meet program needs and critical deadlines. · Willing and able to occasionally travel statewide, or out of state, which may include overnight stays and traveling alone or with another person(s). · Willing and able to carry a cell phone and/or beeper for emergency calls as needed.
