Provides basic nursing care to non-acute! ly ill participants and assists with examinations as assigned. Distinguishing Characteristics

The Washington State Migrant Council (WSMC) provides Early Childhood Education (ECE) and social services to more than 4000 children, in center based and home based setting, at more than 25 Child Development Centers (CDC) throughout the State of Washington. WSMC provides services under various federal and state funded programs with differing regulations and stipulations, which must be coordinated and adhered to, including, but not limited to: Regional Head Start (RHS), Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS), Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) and Early Head Start (EHS). The agency is required to meet an annual quota of non-fe! deral share (in-kind) funds. A large majority of children’s ! first language is Spanish.

Supervisory and Other Relationships

Health Assistant reports to the Center Director, and works closely with Health Staff, Core Team, and Center Staff with and around Children.

Examples of Essential Duties and Accountabilities

The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.

Conducts basic health screenings, such as height, weight, complete growth grids and BMI charts, blood pressure, and head circumference for children enrolled at the center.

Provide and coordinate the training to staff in health, safety, CPR/1st Aid, and sanitation procedures related to childcare as established per program policy, procedures, and service plan. Responsible to coordinate and document safety and h! ealth committee meetings with staff and program participants. Conducts fire and disaster evacuation drills according to Licensing requirements and WSMC Policy.

Responsible to assure that the orientation of health, safety, nutrition, and oral health regulations for new employees is completed within the first 15 days of employment. Orientation on child abuse regulations must be completed within the first 2 days of employment. Responsible to provide in-service trainings to staff, parents, and children on nutrition, safety, oral health, and health education. Responsible to maintain and update the nutritional needs of children at the center.

Responsible to maintain a comprehensive reporting health record system to ensure that adequate health records are compiled on all children enrolled at the center. Review daily health checks of children in accordance to Washington State Licensing requirements. Prepares reports for Center Director’s approval.

Provi! de on-going follow-up to children’s needs to assure that medical, den! tal, and nutrition concerns have been addressed, and prenatal/post-partum to include Home Visits as required. Monitor children’s immunizations, physicals, dental, exams, and assure parents are provided timely notices of upcoming due dates of children needs.

Schedule and coordinate appointments for health screenings (physical/dental, vision, hearing, hematocrit, PPD) as needed with Health Services Lead, Health Services Specialist or contracted providers and/or the service providers.

Communicates with parents to integrate information into the child(s) health file. In coordination with the Family Service Worker will make appropriate referral for children who may require special services. Make ongoing entries in child/parent files regarding progress activities, services, and/or concerns.

Actively participate in parent meetings, parent teacher conferences, and partnership meetings.

Conduct at least three (3) health committee meetings as a re! quirement of service plan.

Responsible to enter health data into program data system.

Assist Center Director to maintain center roster up to date as needed.

Further professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.

Maintains confidentiality of program and client related information at all times.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Incumbents are required to demonstrate knowledge and abilities in these areas:

High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills;

Understanding of the interrelationships between services and systems;

Ability to learn new tasks quickly and efficiently;

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines;

Ability to gather data! for reports;

Strong customer service focus;

Ability ! to work with culturally diverse population;

Proficiency with personal computer, including Microsoft Office; and

Accurate documentation and recordkeeping skills.

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience, which must include a minimum of one (1) year experience in duties related to position or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

ECEAP QUALIFICATIONS (must meet one of the following qualifications): - Employment in the same position in the same agency before July 1, 1999; - The equivalent of 30 college credits in family support, public health, health education, nursing, or another field directly related to the job responsibilities. The combination of education, experience and training will provide the competence and skills to perform the work of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Nurse Assistant Certificate (NAC).

Engli! sh/Spanish bi-lingual fluency.

Have reference knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, and Washington State licensing requirements for Child Development Centers.

Willing to perform administrative responsibilities.

Position Requirements

Incumbents are required to have the following:
Valid Washington State driver’s license;

Proof of automobile insurance;

Ability to travel to perform job duties and responsibilities;

Must pass initial and periodic criminal and background check;

Must pass initial and periodic employee health clearance; (present it within forty-five (45) days of employment);

Current Food Handler card; (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);

Current First Aid / CPR cards, (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);

Subject to initial and periodic TB screen; (obtain the test within fifteen (15) days of employmen! t);

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training, (obtai! n the training within thirty (30) days of employment);

Blood Borne Pathogen training, (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);

Subject to random drug screen;

Must sign a Confidentiality Agreement; and

Must complete and sign a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement on an annual basis.
