Child Study and Treatment Center is a 47 bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric hospital, providing inpatient care for children and adolescents from across the State of Washington. We are located in the city of Lakewood, near Tacoma and Steilacoom.
This recruitment will be used to fill one On-Call Registered Nurse 2 position, located throughout the hospital, with varying shifts and days off. If you have questions regarding this recruitment, please contact the recruiter listed in the "Supplemental Information" section of this publication.

Duties: Within a Division of Mental Health psychiatric treatment ho! spital, provides professional nursing services for mentally ill children and adolescents. May also serve as a designated shift charge in the absence of the Psychiatric Child Care Counselor 2.
This position functions as a charge nurse with lead responsibilities over ward staff (Licensed Practical Nurses, Institutional Counselors and Mental Health Technicians) and is responsible under the Nursing Practice Act to supervise nursing care provided by the subordinate nursing staff for the patients to whom they are assigned. This position directs clinical care delivered by Licensed Practical Nurses, Institutional Counselors and Mental Health Technicians; evaluates the quality of care provided to measure compliance to Nursing Department, Joint Commission and CMS nursing standards of care and practice; is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient's medical and psychiatric needs; provides direction and leadership to subordinate staff! on specific nursing care standards and problem resolutions; safely, physically and therapeutically intervenes with patients exhibiting high risk behaviors; and safely contains aggressive patients with assistance utilizing the principles of TEAM.

This position delegates and assigns nursing functions to LPN's and non-licensed nursing personnel based on patient needs and nursing personnel qualifications, skills and abilities and provides mentoring and coaching to subordinate nursing staff on therapeutic interventions, recovery principles and de-escalation techniques for aggressive behaviors.

This position develops the nursing plan of care (nursing component of the interdisciplinary treatment plan) and updates the care plan as patient needs and nursing diagnosis changes and assigns nursing staff to particular patients and evaluates the quality of care provided as outlined in the treatment plan.

This position documents patient response to treatment an! d type of nursing care interventions delivered, to include frequency an! d duration; records, enters, and maintains patient clinical information in electronic forms; assigns nursing staff to document patient treatment, progress and effectiveness; and reports and documents changes in patient conditions to RN supervisor and MD responsible for patient care.

This position provides patient/family education related to medication, nutrition, activities of daily living, coping skills, social skills, anger management and other topics as specified in treatment plans and educates patients in groups-medication compliance, social learning skills, etc.

This position administers medication and performs skilled, specialized treatment/procedures.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing

AND
Possess a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.

Desirable Skills and Abilities

One! year of professional nursing experience.

Knowledge of: professional nursing principles and concepts; dynamics of interpersonal relationships; theory, science and treatment techniques in a particular specialty area of practice such as mental health nursing, infection control, emergency response, etc.; available community resources.

Ability to: use nursing principles, judgment and knowledge; coordinate and provide professional growth and development; work as a team member; and communicate effectively with others.

Proficiency in the operation of computer and programs including electronic reporting used at WSH.

Proficiency in automated medication stations.

Proficiency in the operation of several types/brands of medical equipment including mechanical lifts, glucometers, dynamaps, blood pressure devices, electronic thermometers, oximeters and electronic medical beds.
