The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Washington is spread over four hospitals (University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System and the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center). The Department of Anesthesiology offers instruction in the field of anesthesiology for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty working with a variety of areas including pain, pediatrics, cardiac, trauma, obstetrics and neuroanesthesia.
The Department of Anesthesiology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator.
This individual will be a research /coordinator for a proje! ct to reduce Indo-US Traumatic Brain Injury Burden and the Ped! iatric Guidelines for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) project which will examine adherence nationwide. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Monica Vavilala, PI on both projects, this position will:
TBI Burden:
Coordinate with the Dr. Vavilala, PI, regarding study procedures and abstraction of medical records on the study patients. He/she will train data abstractors and will perform quality checks on collected data developed for the project. Conduct chart abstraction will be of patients who were admitted to UW and India site.
Supervise abstract and code data from 200 medical records (data collection underway). Supervise data entry into electronic database.
Discuss abstraction and data entry process with the Study PI to ensure accurate and reliable data collection.
Complete Progress Reports to study sponsor and to UW IRB
Schedule project meetings and coordinate presentations
The duties that will be performed are for! Specific Aim 2 which focuses on developing a value stream map for severe pediatric traumatic brain injury care. Duties will include:
Working and coordinating with UW Industrial Engineers to develop and refine an the iPAD application data elements for the value stream map.
Recruiting, orienting, training and coordinating the data collectors to capture data at Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center and Harborview Medical Center in 3 settings; Emergency Department, Operating Room, and Intensive Care Unit.
Create a Training manual with Inclusion criteria for this phase of study, including iPAD app user instructions, data definitions Dos and Don'ts and FAQs.Getting and giving feedback to data collectors.
Orienting and Training the study coordinators at other 4 sites to collect data using the iPAD app.
Coordinate with PI and Project Coordinator regarding recruiting data collectors, study procedures and getting their feed bac! k.

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in nursing, rehab medicine or related field and 3 years of experience in manageing research projects
TBI experience and understanding of TBI care and terminology.
Experience with data entry using MS Access and Excel for PC computers.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to function independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to generate agendas and meeting minutes
Ability to coordinate project meetings
Ability to prepare IRB reports and progress reports for funder
Ability to work with grants manager on delivering documents needed for funder
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Desired:
Clinical or research experience with TBI and project management.
Ability ! to commit for the duration of the project.
