The Urgent Care (UC) RN assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients, using the nursing process, GHC Nursing Care Standards, UC Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, GHC Policies and contract agreements. The UC RN works cooperatively with the medical staff to manage the UC patient population, and to coordinate and facilitate healthcare services for the patient. The UC RN is accountable for both the provision of nursing care and the coordination of care for patients in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Assessment: Collection and assessment of data about the healthcare status of the patient is syste! matic, continuous and complies with UC standards
- Plan! of Care: The UC RN plans patient care based on the patient's needs, the practitioner's plan of care and the patient's response to care. Planning for care will include patient priorities based upon essential patient needs and available resources
- Implementation: Implements the plan of nursing care safely and competently
- Evaluation: The patient's response to care is evaluated against established standards and criteria and individual patient goals. The plan is modified accordingly
- Age Specific Care: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age specific needs
- Communication and Coordination of Care: Communicates in an attentive and individualized manner in every encounter. The UC RN coordinates and facilitates care for the patient in all segme! nts of the healthcare delivery system in collaboration with the healthcare team
- Orientation: Verifies and reinforces patient's understanding of purpose for visit, the function of his/her providers, GHC support services, the problem solving resources available, and the UC environment
- Teaching and Counseling: Counsels and provides health teaching to the patient and family/SO based on expressed and identified need
- Preventive Care: Provides patient with preventive care measures congruent with age, sex, and health status
- Documentation: Documents on medical record according to department standard
- Safety and Comfort: Provides each patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment
- Professional Development: Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice, for continues professional growth and self-evaluation
Experience Requirements
Minimum: One year! Emergency Department / Intensive Care Unit / Urgent Care experience wi! thin the last two years
Preferred: Two years Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience
NOTE: Applicants MUST meet minimum experience requirement
Knowledge requirements
- Excellent triage and assessment skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in cardiac monitoring
- Ability to start and maintain IVs
- Ability to exercise independent professional judgment
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates an exceptional level of easily understood verbal communication on the phone
- Ability to collaborate with care team members
- Demonstrates care, courtesy and concern in all consumer and colleague interactions
- Provides culturally sensitive care including consideration for diverse cultures, ethnicity, language, community, background and healthcare beliefs
- Ability to educate and instruct patients and families in acc! ordance with the nursing plan of care
- Intermediate computer and keyboarding skills
Minimum: Graduate of accredited RN program.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Certification requirements
Minimum: Current Washington State RN license, CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification (ENPC) are required within 6 months of hire
Preferred: Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Chemotherapy certification
