Location: First Hill Surgery Center

Position Summary:
The Pre admission RN’s primary role is to provide personalized patient
care in the pre-admission setting. This position handles inbound pre-operative patients to ensure patients receive quality pre-operative screening for our surgical procedures. The RN’s communication, conduct and performance should support the FHSC efforts
in becoming a High Performance Organization

Scope of Practice:
Assessment, nursing diagnosis, setting goals, planning care strategies,
implementing aspects of care as directed, Evaluating, teaching, managing care, maintaining client safety and collaborating with other health care members.

§
Assessment and Analysis: Initiate data collection and analysis that includes pertinent objective and subjective data regarding the health of the patient. The RN is responsible for the assimilation of data gathered from EPIC, the Physician’s office staff
or other members of the team.

§
Diagnosis and Problem Identification: Use patient data and nursing scientific principles to identify the patient’s problems in order to deliver effective care. Determine whether or not an anesthesia review is required and provide the necessary documentation
for review. Ensure appropriate test documentation is included in the patient record and that all required documentation is present in the patient chart prior to check in.

Planning: Plan nursing care by ensuring the pre-admission patient call is comprehensive and completed according to the department standard.

Implementation: ensuring documentation is current, complete and testing requirements have been met.

§
Evaluation: Ensure patients have been screened appropriately and are fully prepared on day of surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • The pre admission RN will be responsible for chart review and data
collection. They will work together with the anesthesia provider to ensure that all patients scheduled for surgery in the FHSC have been screened and have met the criteria for surgery in an ambulatory setting.

  • The pre admission RN will call each patient 5-7 days prior to the day
of surgery per the department policy and will provide patients with pre admission information as well as answer any relevant questions.

  • The pre admission RN will be responsible for working closely with the
Physician offices to ensure all relevant documentation and testing results have been received and is available in the patient chart on the day of surgery.

  • Functions as a liaison between patient and physician for pre-operative
management of patient

Concerns.

  • Uses built-in protocols/processes to assist patients in acquiring pre-operative
testing prior to

Surgery.

  • Works closely with the patient, their PCP, our PA’s, facilities, physicians,
and

Anesthesiologists to ensure patients are safely and effectively prepared
for surgery.

  • Maintain a clean, neat and efficient pre admission area
  • Provide pre op teaching and preparation to patients during pre-admission
call

  • Access and analyze patient health data and work with the anesthesia
providers to assess and ensure

appropriateness for surgery in an ambulatory setting

  • Prepare and assist anesthesia provider with anesthesia reviews
  • Completes documentation and records with accuracy.
  • Follow established policies and procedures related to the position.
  • Understand and deliver quality customer service consistent with the
FHSC efforts in

becoming a High Performance Organization.

  • Follow HIPPAA regulations
  • Adapt and perform effectively in a continuously changing environment.
Coordinate Patient pre admission

care with appropriate departments and the Physician’s office.

  • Maintains a team supportive attendance record.
  • Communication, conduct and dress portray a professional quality at all
times and are in compliance with

the FHSC appropriate surgical attire policy

  • Actively participate in department quality and safety programs.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Certification/Licensure:
Current Washington State license; BLS certification is a minimum requirement.

BLS/ACLS/PALS required

Experience working as an RN in a surgical setting Pre admission, Admitting/OR/PACU
for one to two years. (preferred)
