Description: Tacoma Community College is hiring Nursing Instructor right now, this vacancy will be placed in Washington. Priority Consideration Date: July 12, 2012 Prepare and teach a variety of nursing concepts across the health care continuum with a focus on Mental Health and Chronic Care. This position works closely with nursing faculty colleagues in the design, implementation and evaluation of the nursing curriculum. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Nursing.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in the development of the overall nursing curriculum and specific nursing courses, including the identification of outcomes, content, learning experiences, classroom, clinical and skills lab and teaching and evaluation techniques. · Prepares and teaches a variety of concepts on a generalist level, with a focus on Mental Health and the chronically ill adult. Instruction in didactic and clinical settings. Provides clinical instruction, supervision and evaluation of students at a variety of affiliated institutions. · Ability to teach or learn to teach alternative instruction modalities (Hybrid Online and/or totally Online) · Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating content in areas of mental health and chronic care throughout the curriculum. · Participates in academic advising of students according to the college and program policy. · Participates in periodic evaluation of nursing program outcomes and educational outcomes. · Provide for periodic classroom assessment of teaching effectiveness by students consistent with college policies. · Interpret the philosophy and outcomes of this Associate Degree Nursing Program to the community within and outside the College. · Participates actively in departmental responsibilities to include curriculum review, program development and faculty meetings. · Serves on faculty committees and participates in college governance. · Participates in department, division, and college activities and performs other duties normally assigned to full-time faculty members. · Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications · Masters degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, which includes evidence of preparation in curriculum development. · OR- Bachelors degree in nursing with a Masters degree in a related field. · Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of nursing. · Currently maintain a Washington State RN license or eligible for licensure in the State of Washington. · Ability to meet State of Washington Vocational certification requirements. · Computer literacy including a variety of instructional software. Preferred Qualifications · Teaching experience in an Associate Degree Nursing program including experience in both didactic and clinical teaching. · Experience in adult acute and/or chronic care. · Experience or course work in curriculum design and evaluation. · Experience using multiple methods of technology to facilitate nursing education. · Experience using writing as a method of evaluation in nursing. Knowledge and experience of nursing in a variety of health care settings with a focus in mental health and chronic care working with a diverse population. Instructional skills using a variety of teaching methodologies and technology to meet the needs of multiple learning styles. Commitment to remain current in nursing practice. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with community members, health care professionals, students, faculty and administration. Strong skills in written, oral, and listening communications. Leadership skills and commitment to nursing across the health care continuum. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work successfully with the varied and diverse students and staff of the college.
