This job is responsible for assisting with the ongoing operation and management of the Home Dialysis Pr! ogram, as well as staff education and development programs. An incumbent participates as a member of the health care team in maintaining continuity and quality of patient care.

Requires professional knowledge of a wide range of nursing concepts in order to serve as a consultant to treatment teams to attain and maintain optimum quality and appropriateness of care in accordance with standards of practice and performance.

Essential Duties:
1. Provides education, training and consultative services to clinical staff and prepares, coordinates and conducts patient training programs in all ESRD modalities; participates in related clinical instruction and conferences, maintains and improves knowledge and competency in advanced practice nursing.

2. Prepares, coordinates and conducts orientation programs for Nephrology Services staff and Medical-Surgical nursing personnel in all ESRD modalities.

3. Coordinates staff development activities! and serves as a clinical resource within the specialty.
4. Serves as a primary care nurse for home dialysis patients and assists in managing care with other hospital and community services.

5. Initiates, and participates in, nursing research activities related to patient and staff education; utilizes findings when developing new procedure and protocols, and when evaluating trends in care delivery.

6. Assists in measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of educational programs; assists in developing, revising and coordinating teaching programs for nursing staff.

7. Ensures that educational programs provide nursing staff with skills and competency needed to meet all applicable regulatory requirements.

8. Studies developments in the nephrology field for possible application to the education/training programs.

9. Assists in assuring department preparation for JCAHO and other regulatory agency surveys.

Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

E! ducation:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.

Three years of work experience in clinical nephrology nursing care. One year of patient/staff education and/or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

Experience:
Three years of RN nursing work experience in the designated speciality area.

Previous work experience in the education/training of healthcare providers is strongly preferred.

License

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
  • Current certification in Nephrology Nursing (CNN) by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Board.
  • Current driver's license valid in the state of Washington or other evidence of equivalent mobility.
