Under the administrative, operational, programmatic and clinical supervision of the Health Services! Manager, and in accordance with company policy, goals, and objectives, the Health Services Specialist is responsible for providing quality health care services to all residents including assessing somatic conditions, oversight and delivery of medications according to procedure, and creating a favorable group climate for the effective treatment. The Health Services Specialist is responsible for assessing healthcare needs, providing social, moral, and spiritual guidance, and in collaboration with other staff, shall be responsible for implementing programming designed to assist each resident with their individual treatment plan. Specific responsibilities may vary due to shift assignments and credentials. The Health Services Specialist is responsible for providing high quality services under the least restrictive conditions feasible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Certain essential duties and responsibilities are restricted according to specialized training, license or ! certification. Typical tasks in carrying out these duties incl! ude, but are not limited to the following:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowing and understanding the needs, especially the health care needs, of chemically dependent people in general, and those in treatment, specifically.
  • Knowing oneself to the extent that one can differentiate one’s own needs from those of the residents.
  • Responsible for furthering knowledge through participation in in-service training, seeking clinical consultation, and engaging in an active supervisory process.
PLANNING:
  • Attendance at staff meetings and active participation in planning, coordination and communication of all types, which will contribute to the delivery of quality professional services.
  • Interprets and explains program policy to each resident as needed.
  • Integrates knowledge by thinking through and planning the most professional, therapeutic reaction or intervention in any given resident care situation.
  • Provides written documentation of observations as input to the resident’s Individual Treatment Plan and review process.
IMPLEMENTATION:
  • Follows physician orders in accordance with program policy.
  • Receives written or faxed orders from authorized facility physicians.
  • TB testing if appropriately trained-DOQ and only in accordance with authorized program policy and procedure.
  • Assists residents with delivery of medications for self-administration; completes documentation.
  • Performs blood draws with or without supervision depending on license/certification and only in accordance with approved program policy and procedure.
  • Assist/or perform Aseptic wound care with or without supervision depending on credentials.
  • Perform Ear Lavage with or without supervision â€" DOQ and only in accordance with authorized program policy and procedure.
  • Restocks, maintains storage of, places orders and ret! urns residents’ medication according to pharmacy services policies.
  • Assists Physician with clinical duties.
  • Provides a safe and healthy environment that includes maintaining, cleaning, and disposal of equipment and supplies according to policy and procedures.
  • Aids in the resident’s educational processâ€"academic, social, and spiritual, including conducting health education classes and teaching individual residents health related issues such as, self administration of medications, prevention of infectious diseases, nutrition, nicotine cessation.
  • Assists residents in meeting health and safety needs in accordance with each individual’s stage of recovery and program policies including the following:
  • Performs and monitors resident vital signs.
  • Assesses and reports client concerns regarding physical and psychological needs.
  • Provides verbal/written shift reports, and communicates with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Documents observations of behaviors, physical signs and sympto! ms, medication delivery, ongoing health assessment needs and treatment progress and pertinent health and safety issues according to program policy.
  • Participates in other areas of treatment plan implementation as directed.
  • Participates in data gathering activities as directed.
  • Collects staff urine for pre-employment and random screening.
  • Collects and performs Resident UA Drug Screen specimens, documents and reports results.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must wear safety protective equipment as required, i.e., safety glasses, foot protection.
  • Sitting or standing continuously for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel and reach out and above shoulders.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings as directed.
  • Meets with other program staff, consultants, volunteers, and attends other meetings as directed.

  • Stocks, maintains, inventories and assists with ordering of suppli! es as directed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be licensed with the State of Washington as a Nursing Assistant â€" Registered or Nursing Assistant â€" Certified

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Staffing schedules involve varied hours and weekend shifts.
  • Current First Aid and CPR training.
  • Cultural Diversity training.
  • Detoxification assessment training.
  • Airborne and Bloodborne Pathogens training (annually).
  • Chemical Dependency 101 training.
  • Suicide Intervention training.
  • Boundaries training.
  • De-escalation training.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Access, E-mail, Excel and Word at the time of hire or following training within six months of hire.
  • May be required to maintain driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier.
  • May be required ! to assume responsibilities or duties within the program not specifically delineated in this job description for short periods of time or on an infrequent basis.
