The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) assists individuals with intellectual disabilities and adults with disabling conditions to gain access to the high quality, cost effective supports that they need. This position is within the Region 2 State Operated Living Alternative (SOLA) program. Region 2 SOLA is currently recruiting for a dynamic and motivated Attendant Counselor 2 supporting their Shoreline area homes. This position is On-Call. Duties:
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Within the framework of the Department of Social and Health Services mission and vision, the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) endeavors to decrease poverty, improve the safety and health status of citizens, increase educational and employment success and support people and communities in reaching their potential. Within State Operated Living Alternative (SOLA), a certified supported living program, works under the supervision of an Attendant Counselor Manager in ANY SOLA home. This position provides supervision and instruction to SOLA participants in accordance with Individual Service Plans (ISP), IISPâs, Risk Protocols, Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP), D! elegated Nursing Guidelines and Responsibilities, and Individual Financial Plans. Incorporates values from the Washington State Residential Guidelines (competence, status and recognition, power and choice, safety and health, relationships and inclusion in the community) in all supports. This position also maintains participant homes, yards, possessions in good condition at all times.
Duties include, but not limited to:
Client Services and Supports: Assist and train SOLA clients in all areas of ADL's and any personal care as needed, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, personal hygiene, transferring, social behavior, meal planning and preparation, and household management. Implement individualized programs, plans and services that are designed to increase or maintain skills and facilitate independence; carry out other programs (including positive behavior support plans) as daily schedules. Provide all services and supports in ! accordance with Individualized Instruction and Support Plan's (IISP), p! olicies and procedures, medical orders and Nurse Delegation Plans. Physically assist individuals to the extent and level necessary to provide choice and independence. Assess medical and overall conditions. Safely and accurately implement all nursing procedures as trained by clinical/RND nurse. May include but not limited to: medication administration, blood pressure cuffs/machines, use of oximeter, suction and percussion equipment, nebulizer, colostomy care, internal pump, stoma care, program and use a feeding machine, diabetes supplies and equipment, and monitor an oxygen compressor. Assist clients to seek recreational opportunities that are life enhancing and support individualized choice. This could be assessing their community by attending church, swimming, dancing, or any variety of activities or events. Check on those who are sleeping, at least every two hours, and toilet or change as needed. Turn those who cannot turn themselves; at least every two hours. Check skin ! integrity for signs of breakdown. Be aware of the whereabouts and activities of all participants at all times. Assist with medical or behavioral emergencies. Transports clients to appointments, activities, etc. Follow Therapeutic Options positive support techniques and concepts at all times. Work in any assigned SOLA home. Record Keeping: Collect, review and record data following the SOLA documentation policy. Communicate daily to all shifts in staff log and participant notes. Record health care information from all consultations, appointments and treatments including Medication Administration Records and medication inventory, each shift. Keep all vehicle records up to date and complete. Maintenance: Maintain the clients' home; keeping it safe and clean and involving clients as much as possible; respect all personal property; includes heavy cleaning. Provide lawn and yard maintenance that includes mowing, weeding, watering and shoveling snow. Keep state cars clean and assur! e routine or needed maintenance is completed.
Qualification! s:
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: High School graduation or GED AND One year of experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities
OR High School graduation or GED AND One year experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher level as a Washington State service employee. NOTE: Must obtain and maintain Nursing Assistant Registered (NAR) or NAC certification. Desired Skills and Abilities: · Able to communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position. · Able to act at all time with dignity, kindness, respect, responsiveness, and professionalism. · Able to listen to instructions or read instructions, assimilate the information and act according to those instructions. · Able to understand and follow all applicable policies, procedures, and rules. · Able to identify abuse, neglect, mistreatment, exploitation and/or abandonment, and as a mandato! ry reporter, to report per DDA/SOLA policies and procedures. · Able to work both as a team member and alone with clients. · Able to plan menus, shop for groceries, and cook meals that encourage and support good health and nutrition. · Able to assess clientsâ overall skill level and health and safety needs. · Able to perform personal care tasks for both males and females. · Able to respond appropriately to emergencies and use good judgment. · Able to view client behavior or attributes without judgment or bias. · Able to maintain confidentiality of client and personnel information. · Willing and able to transport clients as necessary. · Able to read and implement doctor/nursing orders, as written. · Able to order/re-order medications as needed and document/monitor/report on medications per SOLA policies. · Able to follow proper protocols for the safe and accurate administration and documentation of participant medications and nursing procedures per Nurse Delegati! on and DDA policies, and SOLA procedures. · Able to support clients in! crisis by emphasizing the helping relationship using program approved methods. · Able to perform basic arithmetic computations necessary to assist clients to manage their finances and to meet other programmatic requirements per individualized financial plans and SOLA policy. · Able to accurately conduct financial audits of client checking, savings, petty cash, and food stamp accounts. · Able to work overtime and across supervisory units on short notice. · Able to provide care to a variety of client-owned pets. · Able to perform basic yard duties, including but not limited to mowing, weed pulling, leaf raking, etc. · Able to perform household cleaning duties including but not limited to laundry, deep cleaning, vacuuming, etc. · Able to respond to exposure to blood borne pathogens (BBP) or other hazardous materials and follow all safety and infection control policies and practices.
