JOB SUMMARY: The Diet Clerk coordinates patient nutrition cases within Food Management & Nutrition Services by performing quality, cost effective diet therapy tasks. Functions as the main communication link between Nutrition Services and Nursing Services regarding patient food service needs. *Age of patient will be a determining factor on the performance of these duties. Interprets patient diet orders sent from Nursing Units into appropriate menus for food ser! vice to send back to the patients. Interprets patient diet ord! ers in the Hospital's computer system - keeping information sent from the Nursing Units continually updated. Answers and responds to HIS messages coordinating patient food service needs with the Nursing Units. Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills. Performs on tray line with accuracy in service to the patient. Ability to interpret and answer simple diet questions. Standard day-to-day activities according to patient's needs and/or menus. • Menu and diet order coordination. • Teamwork with staff. Works with Exec. Chef and Dietitians to insure accuracy with recipes as well as Menu's and diet orders. Decision-making regarding the appropriateness of recipes and/or menus in Compliance with patient satisfaction, hospital's policy and JACCHO regulations. Failure to comply could result in significant legal ramifications and adverse patient care impact. Advises Exec. Chef and/or supervisor when necessary for any and all adjustments. REQUIREMENTS: Must possess b! asic skills to use Microsoft Windows, the internet, and send/receive e-mail. Computer and 10-key Calculator knowledge required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a busy office setting. Ability to prioritize job duties to insure problems are solved in a timely manner. Important calls are answered by appropriate personnel as quickly as possible. Nutrition education desired; valid Washington State Food and Beverage Workers Permit required. Hospital Food Service work experience helpful with knowledge of modified diets and nutrition.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth and the SEIU which contains a "union security" provision. This means that, as a condition of employment, you must join the union and pay union dues and any required fees within 30 days of your date of hire.
