You will enjoy diverse challenges , working on a variety of issues (Labor and Employment matters, acting as a company spokesperson in union negotiations, structuring new employment contracts, investigations and more) with diverse industries . Our Members are a diverse group of Washington's private, public and non-profit employers in manufacturing, service, healthcare, education and media. As you represent them in critical communications with government authorities and labor unions, your legal skills will greatly contribute to the future of their businesses. Additionally, you will provide ongoing advice and counsel to Members concerning their dail! y labor and employment issues.

The Requirements
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
A law degree from an ABA accredited school.
License to practice in the State of Washington.
Three to five years of experience in Labor Relations and Employment law.
A background in collective bargaining, union and National Labor Relations Board cases, arbitration and employment contracts is highly desirable, but this could be an opportunity to gain this knowledge and experience.
Proven relationship-building skills and a strong sense of enjoyment in w! orking as part of a team.
Experience facilitating / delivering seminars and / or speaking before groups is a plus.
Experience developing / updating PowerPoint presentations would be helpful.
Healthcare or school district experience can be helpful.
The Role
You will join three other Labor and Employment Attorneys who counsel our Members. The Director of Labor Relations Services and General Counsel, to whom you report, offers guidance when needed, but also fosters an independent case management style for attorneys.
In the course of applying your knowledge of prevailing federal and local labor and employment laws, you work closely with CEOs, HR executives and other key leaders of our Member companies. Using your strategic thinking and legal acumen, you'll forge close ties with employers in the state and make a real difference in their businesses. We build long-standing and loyal relationships with our Members. One measure of you! r success will be the appreciative feedback our Members readily share. !
Your typical workday is a very workable mix of local meetings and in-house advisory activities. You can expect to:
Negotiate and Represent â" One-half or more of your focus will be on negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements with unions. You will also advise staff and members on employment issues, and represent employers before government agencies such as the NLRB, EEOC, Washington Human Rights Commission, Public Employment Relations Commission and/or other agencies, and representing employers in contract negotiations.
The day might start with a Machinist's union meeting where you represent a small manufacturer's interest.
Next, you might be in the middle of a local school district dispute with the teachers' union.
Then you might head to the office to prepare for the next day's collective bargaining session with a Nurses' union.
Advise and Counsel â" When negotiations are not in session, you will ! provide cost-effective, risk-reducing consultative services to our Members. You'll devise solutions that address the full range of L&E problems, including wage and hour issues, hiring and firing procedures, discrimination prevention, and medical and family leave queries. You also will provide legal guidance to our staff of HR consultants.
Support Workplace Investigations â" Our members call upon us frequently to investigate workplace disputes, so you will be a fact-finder and adviser, as the case may be.
Present in diverse settings â" Each Attorney invests 15% to 20% of her or his time in this area, which includes: >
Facilitating law-focused learning and development courses that are part of our larger catalog of courses. These sessions may cover leave laws, various aspects of employment law, investigations and more. You may deliver seminars at members' sites, our offices or rented spaces.
Presenting on legal topics at source out engagemen! ts before groups such as chambers of commerce, trade associations, the ! Society of Human Resources Management and others. These engagements help market and promote Wa-Emp.
Participating in round tables at networking events for various professional organizations. You will organize a few round tables each year to share information and market Wa-Emp.
