Western State Hospital is located on 264 acres on the original site of Fort Steilacoom, amid 100 year old stately lined avenues, near the town of Steilacoom and the city of Lakewood.

Western State Hospital is recruiting for a non - permanent Registered Nurse 2 position in the Center for Forensic Services (CFS), ward F-2 , ni! ghtshift (10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) with rotating Saturday and ! Sunday off.

Duties:
This position functions as a charge nurse with lead responsibilities over ward staff (Licensed Practical Nurses, Institutional Counselors and Mental Health Technicians) and is responsible under the Nursing Practice Act to supervise nursing care provided by the subordinate nursing staff for the patients to whom they are assigned.

This position directs clinical care delivered by Licensed Practical Nurses, Institutional Counselors and Mental Health Technicians; evaluates the quality of care provided to measure compliance to Nursing Department, Joint Commission and CMS nursing standards of care and practice; is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient's medical and psychiatric needs; provides direction and leadership to subordinate staff on specific nursing care standards and problem resolutions; safely, physically and therapeutically intervenes with patients exhibiting high risk b! ehaviors; and safely contains aggressive patients with assistance utilizing the principles of TEAM.

This position delegates and assigns nursing functions to LPN's and non-licensed nursing personnel based on patient needs and nursing personnel qualifications, skills and abilities and provides mentoring and coaching to subordinate nursing staff on therapeutic interventions, recovery principles and de-escalation techniques for aggressive behaviors.

This position develops the nursing plan of care (nursing component of the interdisciplinary treatment plan) and updates the care plan as patient needs and nursing diagnosis changes and assigns nursing staff to particular patients and evaluates the quality of care provided as outlined in the treatment plan.

This position documents patient response to treatment and type of nursing care interventions delivered, to include frequency and duration; records, enters, and maintains patient clinical information in e! lectronic forms; assigns nursing staff to document patient treatment, p! rogress and effectiveness; and reports and documents changes in patient conditions to RN supervisor and MD responsible for patient care.

This position provides patient/family education related to medication, nutrition, activities of daily living, coping skills, social skills, anger management and other topics as specified in treatment plans and educates patients in groups-medication compliance, social learning skills, etc.

This position administers medication and performs skilled, specialized treatment/procedures.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing

AND
Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.

AND
One year of professional nursing experience

Desirable Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in the operation of computer, automated medication stations, and electr! onic reporting

Criminal background check clearance, which may include fingerprinting, is required of all employees and applicants.

Employees in this classification are included in a union shop. Employees must comply with all health screening requirements.

Employees in these positions may be required to work overtime and/or holidays. Employees in these positions must be able to participate as an active member of the treatment team for patients who have behavioral, social, and/or medical problems and who may exhibit non-compliant behavior.
