UWMC has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant . As part of their daily duties, The Pediatric Care Center Medical Assistant assists health care professionals in the examination and treatment of pediatric patients by performing duties such as preparation of patient and en! vironment for treatment, conducting basic laboratory and elect! rocardiogram tests, care of the patient post-treatments, patient education, and clerical reception functions including:

Schedule routine and special procedures.

Prepare patients for and assist health care professionals with the procedures.

Present portions of the pre- and post-procedure patient education sessions.

Perform procedures including ear irrigation, dressing changes, immunization administration.

Perform basic laboratory examinations, venipuncture, and 12-lead electrocardiogram including rhythm strips, pregnancy testing, and throat cultures.

Monitor patient's condition following procedures.

Observe and document in the medical record the patient's physical and emotional condition and vital signs.

Recognize and report symptomalogy of common medical illnesses to physician or nurse.

Schedule new and return appointments.

Use computer system to check patients in and out of clinics.
Answer incoming calls.

Serve as clinic receptionist when assigned.

Prepare medical record for clinic visit and document information to complete patient check-in process.

Verify presence of medical records and x-rays prior to scheduled appointments.

Request existing records and x-rays as necessary.

Transport patients and lab specimens.

Monitor patient flow in clinic to assure efficient clinic operations.

Complete billing documents verifying the correctness of charges and that diagnoses have been obtained.

Respond to patient billing questions referring as necessary to appropriate source.

Order medical and clerical supplies.

Stock examination rooms.

Perform related medical assistant duties as required.

Perform front desk reception duties, including appointment scheduling/ rescheduling, check-in/out, multi-line phone answering, etc.

Possesses a strong wor! k ethic, flexibility, eagerness to learn, and a team player mentality w! ith the ability to contribute to a positive working relationship among all staff, providers and patients

REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA);

OR

high school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience providing direct patient care in a health care setting

OR

equivalent education/experience.

ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be certified as an MA or have Interim status
