ESH is located in eastern Washington, approximately 16 miles southwest of Spokane. The hospital is located in an urban center of the Inland Northwest, and is surrounded by a large outdoor recreation area. This recruitment is to fill one full-time Psychiatric Security Nurse position. This vacancy is located on our Forensic Services Unit (2S1 Ward), from 6:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday (Friday and Saturday off). ! Duties:
As a Psychiatric Security Nurse, you will ! provide patient care and security on Psychiatric Unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) to patients who have psychiatric and physical illnesses. This position is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal, state, and DSHS Administrative Policy 18.75, Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington and (WFSE). Activity supports the ESH Vision, Philosophy, Mission and delivers care within the framework of the Recovery Model based on patient strengths. Duties include, but are not limited to: Provide routine direct patient care and security on a Psychiatric Unit under direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) Exchange pertinent clinical information during shift and at change of shifts Administer medications and treatments Complete paperwork and documents for medication orders, pxysis/medimar entry Follow all hospital, state, federal regulator standards, polici! es, and procedures Implement security policies and requirements of the Forensic Services Unit Complete patient education as assigned Transfer patients De-escalate patients Escort and transport patients Lead, co-lead groups and document participation
Qualifications:
Required Education, Experience, Licensure, Skills and Abilities: Possession of a valid license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Washington AND Two years of experience in caring for patients or residents in a hospital, school, or mental health facility Desired Skills and Abilities: ~ Proficiency in the operation of the following equipment: computer, copy machine, metal detector, patient lifting equipment, pxysis, medimar and hospital emergency equipment as trained per scope of practice Special Requirements and/or Conditions of Employment: ~ Successful completion of a background check is required for this position ~ Comply with ESHâs health screening requirements by undergoing an initial a! nnual health screening ~ Able to effectively communicate with managemen! t, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position ~ Comply with union shop requirements ~ Must be eligible to work in a facility receiving Medicare funds ~ Dress appropriately for the work to be performed ~ Administer medications and has been designated as a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing. ~ This position has been designated as a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing per DSHS Administrative Policy 18.75 and the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington and (WFSE), to include post-employment, post-accident, return to duty, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up testing Under the DSHS Emergency Operations Plan, the incumbent may be required to perform the following during a recognized emergency: ~ Report for duty on short notice for a specified timeframe. ~ Report for duty outside of normally scheduled work hours and workdays. ~ Report to a duty station that ! is different from the official duty station. ~ Perform work tasks outside the normal scope of duties reflected in the Position Description. During a recognized emergency, the duties may be different from normal duties, and will be temporary in nature lasting only as long as necessary to resume normal operations. Working Environment: ~ Hold a valid driverâs license when operating a state or privately owned vehicle on official state business. Comply with Washington Stateâs liability laws when operating a privately owned vehicle on official state business. ~ Must be prepared to work with persons who have behavioral, emotional, psychiatric, social, medical and/or correctional problems and who may exhibit inappropriate non-compliant and/or aggressive behavior. ~ Work in an adult psychiatric hospital setting; may escort patients outdoors daily and be subject to the weather conditions. ~ May be required to adjust scheduled hours of work to meet hospitalâs workload demands (i! .e. work overtime, work holidays, etc.) ~ Occasional travel may be requ! ired
