Performs hemodialysis patient care treatment activities as dele! gated by the physician, and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Incumbents are also accountable for 1) monitoring the water purification system, 2) assisting with the maintenance of hemodialysis equipment and 3) identifying and participating in performance improvement activities.
Essential Duties:
Prepares for routine hemodialysis patient care treatment activities in accordance with Nephrology Services standards of care.
Provides assistance with care planning preparation.
Collects data related to intradialytic fluid and other physiologic changes prior to treatment and communicates findings to supervising RN in a timely manner.
Establishes blood access for hemodialysis using fistulae, grafts, or subclavian/intrajugular catheters.
Prepares bicarbonate/concentrate solutions as assigned.
Delivers hemodialysis patient care treatment under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Initiates! , monitors, and discontinues hemodialysis treatments per proto! col/procedure.
Treats, within parameters, and reports treatment complications to RN.
Monitors patient status and vital signs; obtains blood samples.
Documents patient care treatment in accordance with established procedures.
A
ssists with preparation checks and maintenance of all hemodialysis, water purification, and ancillary equipment.
Cleans, disinfects and performs quality assurance checks of; hemodialysis delivery system; glucose meter, refrigerator, and eyewash station; and lift device battery.
Performs daily water testing and checks supply expiration dates.

Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services.

Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent) required.
A minimum of one year of post-secondary education in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, mathematics, concepts of asepsis, and microbiology preferred.
Six months of recent work experience in hemodialysis or other patient care function in a medical setting that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.
License/Certification:

Hemodialysis
In addition, current certification required within eighteen months of date of hire into the position by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) as a! Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Tech (CCHT) or by the Board of Nephrol! ogy Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician.
Current Healthcare BLS Certification required.
