Patients requiring a shorter length of stay for evaluation or testing purposes, as well as those who require surgery are also part of the unit. Often referred to as the backbone of adult-care facilities, medical-surgical nurses are responsible for all adult patients receiving medical or surgical care. The med-surg RN typically works in the following settings:
