Responsibilities:
The Instrument Technician disassembles, cleans, disinfects, sterilizes, assembles and stores equipment and supplies used in the Operating Room or Endoscopy. The Instrument Technician functions competently and independently, under the general direction of the supervisor, manager, or a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications:
Education Background
High school diploma or GED required.
Prefer graduation from either an accredited Instrument Room Technician training program or Central Processing (Central Services) training program.

Licensure, Registration, Certification
Prefer Central Service/Materials Management certification.

Special Training/Skills
Requires basic knowledge of disinfection and sterilization principles and procedures; knowledge of hospital/surgical supplies a! nd equipment, ability to recognize instruments by name and identify if ! working properly; knowledge of proper cleaning, handling, inspecting, and maintenance of equipment to assure disinfection, sterility and proper functioning.
Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.

Work Experience
Requires a minimum of one year experience as an Instrument Technician (or equivalent experience in another related OR job), including central processing/central services and decontamination experience.

Physical Abilities
Must be able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
Must be able to handle a fluctuating workload.
This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-
Lift / Carry
5! 0 to 100 pounds occasionally
25 to 50 pounds frequently
10 to 20 pounds constantly

As required, must be able to -

Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates
